The Latin species name cruentus , “blood-stained” has the same background Blood Pheasants mainly feed on mosses – not many bird species do this as mosses are not very nutritious. So, researchers looked at the habitat use of Blood Pheasants as related to the presence of livestock.

Moreover, the pair I saw was feeding from a livestock trough alongside a group of cattle. Hardly the elegant, natural picture deserving of some seriously stunning birds! And what I found made me take a step back in time and reflect upon how truly special these birds are. I reported the color-coding of the birds that I saw.

With its ghostly visage and bloodcurdling, otherworldly screeches, the Barn Owl seemed like the perfect bird for a Hallowe’en wine. The region boasts some of the country’s richest farmland and besides wine, the estate produces rice, cork, and livestock. Good birding and happy drinking! Four out of five feathers (Excellent).

I don’t know of any other association with birds beyond the label, so I’m inclined just to move on to the tasting notes because there’s a lot to cover in this one. Even the brewery’s spent grains, once shoveled out of the mash tun, are hauled off to a local farm as livestock feed. Good birding and happy drinking! __.
