Birding the Bear Mountain of Serbia

A narrow forest road takes us to the chain blocking the entrance, with a sign “Area closed – bear danger”. This feeding station is not here for the tourists: in order to lower the bee-hive raiding (even the Serbian word for a bear, medved, comes from the word honey – med), supplementary feeding was offered to local bears for several decades.

Monterrey Meetings

Monterrey is a big industrial city, with industrious people. We finally reached Mesa de Oso , the table (mountain) of the bear. These parrots breed inside cavities in cliffs and they are very particular about the cliff. Work brings me regularly to Monterrey in Nuevo Leon, northern Mexico. It was amazing.

Tropical Cyclone Joyce dumped 100mm of rain in Perth as it travelled south as a rain-bearing depression and the whole family had the experience of torrential rain in Western Australia. The rain need not have fallen anywhere near Carnarvon, but the river supplies water to the horticultural industry and was more than welcome.
