As I am already familiar with CL Companion, ELs and NLs, as well as the ATS/STX scopes, now I had a chance to try those toys I am not familiar with, such as hunting EL Range binoculars with built-in electronics telling the user the distance and an azimuth angle (interesting, but I still prefer my binoculars without batteries).

But necessity is the mother of invention and some camera battery covers doubled up as spoons to ensure that our stomachs could stop their grumbling! Stopped briefly at a small roadside waterfall where we enjoyed observing a medium-sized centipede methodically hunt, finally being rewarded for its efforts after approximately 15 minutes.

The Oriental Darter is classified as Near Threatened – the reasons are the usual ones: habitat loss, hunting, and pollution. of its hunts are successful. Back to birds. Humankind, you did it again, congratulations. The Latin species name melanogaster highlights the black belly of the bird ( melanos = black, gastros = belly).

The bird life of Kruger National Park appears to be distilled into a small area surrounding the hide and they seem oblivious to the observers with their battery of lenses poking out from the wooden building. Today an adult bird was hunting while two juvenile birds waited, knee-deep in water, apparently unclear what to do next.

The hand warmers in my pocket not only were relief for my fingers but kept my batteries in my camera a little warmer too, extending their life. In Caines, Australia, we enjoyed a wet morning on the Daintree River, with Murray Hunt, of the Dain Tree River Tours. At this point, I am going to take a short break from writing, rest a bit, get the batteries recharged and figure out what we are going to do for an encore to 2018. So there you have it, my favorite birds of the year.

I reach for my camera, only to realise that the batteries were flat. Bank Swallows in the Americas) are flying above, Common Kingfishers are hunting (on this bank alone I will record six of them), quite a few Common Redshanks , while the roadside bushes are alive with migrating flocks of Willow Warblers.
