Why do animals from the same family attack each other?

So the other day I was watching funny pet cat videos and I started thinking. If one of these cats approached a tiger or lion I am assuming that the altercation would not go well. But then I asked myself why? They are both from the same family so why would they not become friends?

If you put some animals (both wild and domestic) on an island and left them there to roam free and we come back after a few years who would survive. They are much more independent and still behave similarly to wild cats they are still pets and rely on humans to survive. Would suprisngly rodents and small animals.
