Animals of Kruger National Park by Keith Barnes is the animal guide I wish I had when I visited South Africa. It would have been useful to have more information about the rest camps that define each route, but I understand that there is a fine line (maybe even a broad one) between writing an animal guide and a tourist guide.

Shockingly, the Ashy-throated Parrotbill apparently is a species heavily hunted for bird fighting in Guizhou Province, China ( source ). If being hunted by evil humans was not enough, Ashy-throated Parrotbills are also hosts of the parasitic Common Cuckoo. Animal Class. Shame on the researchers. American Civil War? World War 1?

link] The strategies used by professional reptile keepers are only successful because they take into account the behavioral flexibility of the reptiles. And their behavior is completely consistent with what we would understand as "animal sentience." Reptiles that are not treated ethically simply do not make good pets.

Watching them hunt is fascinating. I’ve seen Secretarybirds zigzag after fleeing animals, spreading their huge wings periodically, presumably in an effort to maintain their balance as they twist and turn. When a fire is located they will descend and feed upon small animals that flee the flames. Note the huge wings.

Originally the land was occupied by plantish things, but they formed detritus, so some animals crawled from the aquatic habitat in which they had diversified to eat the detritus. Soon after carnivores that could hunt on land evolved, things like ancestral centipedes.
