Because I've been thinking about the evolution of my own thinking--and languaging--regarding animal rights. Both animal rights groups and animal welfare groups use "compassion" frequently. Then again, so do people who kill animals for a living. After all, they "love" the animals they kill. Or vegan pumpkin pie.

I've been out of every loop I used to be in because my work outside of veganism and animal rights came a-calling in a most critical way. And it doesn't seem to matter as there is a cadre of new bloggers and writers, including several who analyze the mainstream news as it relates to animals and also religion.

All the proceeds will benefit the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant Foundation (GTAEF) conservation, which has rescued 11 baby and young-adult elephants since its inception in 2006. Here 's the book.)

And you wouldn't fund a program that was very expensive per unit (human or nonhuman animal) yet you often don't think about that when you're dealing with an individual. And former vegan, Chuck Roomi, who says veganism isn't practical "For people who do not have a desire to eat exotic foods from thousands of miles away, or mechanically-formulated suplements" also warrants a response. Animals raised for food suffer miserably. The overwhelming passage in November of Proposition 2 in California, which banned tight confinement of many of the animals raised for food, is a fine example of the power of publicity to educate people about the atrocities we commit to those animals who have no voice of their own.
