After we took possession of an injured and weakened Golden Eagle from the vast desert area of eastern Utah, it became clear that the compound fracture of the tibiotarsus was the result of a steel-jaw trap. That did not stop a New Jersey animal shelter from publishing this rabble-rousing flyer on Facebook, all written in alarming red capital letters: PARK RANGERS AND VET OFFICES ARE PUTTING OUT WARNINGS. THESE ARE THE PETS THAT HAWKS CAN SWOOP DOWN AND GRAB.

Driving slowly along the track towards the levee separating this area from the Danube backwaters, a largish marten-like animal once ran across the track. Once I observed a man walking his two small dogs here, passing by a perched White-tailed Eagle but looking down at grass and not noticing the largest raptor in Europe at all.

A Crested Serpent Eagle , looking a bit ridiculous after a rain. This is a juvenile Grey-headed Fish Eagle , unless it is another fish eagle like the Lesser (the lack of any grey head makes me doubt the identification a bit, but it seems juveniles cannot afford a grey head yet). Well, it seems such people exist.

If you put some animals (both wild and domestic) on an island and left them there to roam free and we come back after a few years who would survive. They are much more independent and still behave similarly to wild cats they are still pets and rely on humans to survive. Would suprisngly rodents and small animals.

It takes a lot of nerve—or something that can’t be printed here—to name your rat poison after the animals that so effectively and efficiently control rodents but that are also being poisoned—as “non target” animals—by your product. I’ll leave today’s blog in her capable hands.

In a recent case involving my own facility, an immature bald eagle was hit by a car. People passed the eagle often. Will all rescued animals survive to have a happy ending? There was a time when our domestic pets were treated like objects. Veterinarians were taught animals did not “feel” like we did.
