I'm a longtime proponent of animal rights, but this suit is ridiculous. Applying it to nonhuman animals is a stretch. Second, it is not a necessary condition for the possession of rights (legal or otherwise) that one be a person. Nonhuman animals can suffer.

BSL (Breed-Specific Legislation) is the canine equivalent of racial profiling, banning certain dog breeds that have been labeled “dangerous.” ITo recently also introduced an “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty&# t-shirt. I’m Tired of - (ITo) is on a mission to help put an end to it.

I support the goal of legal rights for nonhuman animals, but this approach is wrongheaded. Instead of using the 13th Amendment, the original understanding of which did not include animals, proponents should work for a constitutional amendment, or simply for national legislation. Take it to the people.

Mexico is notorious for its bullfights and lack of animal rights. Senators from the opposition Institutional Revolutionary Party, or PRI, are working on legislation to ban bullfights and guarantee animal rights in Mexico, a lawmaker said. But, still, I can't dismiss it. From Fox News (blech).

Did you see that Change.org now has an Animal Welfare page? is clearly someone who advocates for animal rights. Ernst believes we don't have a right to use sentient nonhumans and all of her posts (and those of Alex Melonas, who also posts at animalrights.change.org) are unequivocal about animal use.

I was browsing for some quotes when I came across this group - The National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA). They had a page with quotes from animal rights activists, but as I was reading, I noticed that they were very unfavorable quotes from such activists as Wayne Pacelle and Ingrid Newkirk. So, I'm like, waaaaaait a minute.

But there are animal rights activists in Mexico that will hopefully take notice and try to establish some kind of long-term and humane solution. Activists said what the government was doing qualified as “animal torture,” and they called for legislative reform. Sarcasm there of course. From Latino Fox News.
