With birds like Ornate Hawk-Eagle and Snowcap possible, how can you not take up birding while living in Costa Rica? The sightings raise several questions. We might have limited space but we make up for it with a massive amount of biodiversity including well over 900 bird species on the official Costa Rica bird list.

This male Short-tailed Albatross has fledged 2 chicks from Eastern Island, Midway Atoll, the only place in the U.S. Short-tailed Albatross was thought to be, at one time, the most abundant species of albatross in the North Pacific. this species breeds. Can you imagine having to go to Alaska just to see our national bird?

Hopefully you haven’t drunk too much the night before as there will be plenty of bird watching from the ferry, picking up albatrosses and shearwaters like Scarlett’s Shearwater. In Cantebury, where there are moa there might be Haast’s Eagles. But our excitement at seeing moa here isn’t just for themselves.
