The tremendous Rhinoceros Hornbill

However, hopes were high as I was fortunate enough to encounter quite a number of hornbill species in southern Africa ten years ago, and they are amongst my favourite groups of birds. And the biggest one occuring on Borneo – the Rhinoceros Hornbill – is actually not a hornbill at all in flight, it is a flying barn door.

A small flock of Merops bullockoides were feeding in Kruger National Park, South Africa. They were chasing flies around a rhinoceros midden. Being able to spend a bit of time simply watching and enjoying. Thus my BBOTY for 2019 was; White-fronted Bee-eater.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay welcomes a baby white rhinoceros!

Kisiri, Tambo and another female white rhino were airlifted from Kruger National Park in South Africa in 2001 through the efforts of the International Rhino Foundation (IRF), a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of rhinos. The birth brings the total white and black rhino population at the adventure park to eight.
