In three cases of adoption the common factor was that the adopting individual was sexually attracted to one of the real parents of the young.

The very first thing we notice about this large member of the Galliformes is that there is a wild version and a domestic version, and although the two are rather different, they are both given the same species name, Meleagris gallopavo. They may have also had hunting dogs with them as well. This is where they got their name.

I once knew a guy who kept and raised cats. Dogs are similarly dispersed across size ranges, with Foxes, Coyotes, and Wolves taking prey across different parts of the size range. Also, feral Cats on islands seem to be a serious problem, causing the extirpation of some indigenous species. They are invasive species.

It turns out that people are not the only ones, who can adopt children – animals are good at this as well. Especially it is associated with dogs, which may raise kids of other species and even of scary and dangerous representatives of wildlife! Puma rejected her children and they were given to Mary.
