Southern California is loaded with parrots. Quite a few species are well-established and breeding from San Diego to Los Angeles and beyond. That's one of the reasons adopting wasn't a stretch for me at all mentally. The cows are walking around green fields, similar to those in the criminally misleading California cows commercials. Their goal is to make a profit from the breeding and slaughter of animals. You see midwestern folk in overalls with tired faces.

The variety of plumages that they show and the way different individuals molt at different times is interesting to me and I have stopped being surprised at seeing a small flock of ruddies with some nearly in full breeding, or alternate plumage, while others are still in their basic, or non-breeding plumage.
