According to Couzens, after laying the eggs, females sometimes immediately abandon their first mate and pair up with another male. I gave up my US citizenship a few years ago and looking at recent events such as “Right vs. Wrong”, it was one of my better decisions. But maybe that is actually a good thing.

Even among our primate relatives, whoa are generally very smart, “Theory of Mind” is found in only a few species. If the crows can distinguish between UCA and HCA, they should treat UCA related events with caution, but be more indifferent to events caused by a HCA, unless of course the HCA is a cat.

Tomorrow I’m taking part in my local club’s official Big Day event – the Hudson-Mohawk Bird Club’s 73 rd Annual Guy Bartlett Century Run – for my fifth year in a row. Personally, I’m expecting nothing less than a Kirtland’s Warbler to get me to 129 species tomorrow, but scouting efforts to date paint a more grim picture.

So I put together a “carnival” (of sorts) of Feral Cat Ordinances and Issues that samples current events across the US. … Matthew Anderson [of Audubon] said proponents of colonies are putting the interests of one invasive species — cats — over the hundreds of other native ones that are their prey.

There’s no way around it as the various species are reasonably common, and you will surely want to identify them. And since River Warbler is an incredibly neat species (aka difficult to get on your life list), it sure is worth the effort of peeking at its undies. Option two: abandon bird. Or vice versa. And you know what?

The birds were right next to an old abandoned farm house, and seemed quite happy to have their photo taken, up to a point, but then like the wind, they were gone, out thru the flat desert areas of New Mexico! This did open up the area to a few new species, like this Wilson’s Warbler. US species – 234.

It flared its wings, and the Osprey flared to match but refused to abandon the fish. I doubt this young bird had the full 7-foot wingspan that the species can achieve – in fact, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it only had a few inches, wingspan-wise, on the Osprey. The bulk of its body was another story altogether.
