According to Couzens, after laying the eggs, females sometimes immediately abandon their first mate and pair up with another male. I gave up my US citizenship a few years ago and looking at recent events such as “Right vs. Wrong”, it was one of my better decisions. But maybe that is actually a good thing.

The Incredulous New Caledonian Crows

Even among our primate relatives, whoa are generally very smart, “Theory of Mind” is found in only a few species. If the crows can distinguish between UCA and HCA, they should treat UCA related events with caution, but be more indifferent to events caused by a HCA, unless of course the HCA is a cat.

Little Big Year – Week 35: Route 66, Tucumcari and The Albuquerque area

The birds were right next to an old abandoned farm house, and seemed quite happy to have their photo taken, up to a point, but then like the wind, they were gone, out thru the flat desert areas of New Mexico! This did open up the area to a few new species, like this Wilson’s Warbler. US species – 234.

Raven vs. Osprey and Other Raptor Battles

It flared its wings, and the Osprey flared to match but refused to abandon the fish. I doubt this young bird had the full 7-foot wingspan that the species can achieve – in fact, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it only had a few inches, wingspan-wise, on the Osprey. The bulk of its body was another story altogether.
