(In Conservation efforts have been sufficiently successful for the bird’s status to be downlisted, in 2018, from Critically Endangered to Endangered. In 2018, there were 1,745 birds living in 92 different zoos and collections.

A Lake Reborn… sort of

10,000 Birds

Each of the dark marks in this photo from August, 2018 was a duck. The good news is that this summer central Mexico is experiencing its best rains since 2018. While numbers were low, our first migratory Baird’s Sandpipers and Wilson’s Phalaropes had arrived from their breeding grounds up north, right on time.

A paper titled “Crested Goshawk Accipiter trivirgatus may adapt well to life in urban areas across its range in Asia” already made the same observation in 2018. The Little Grebe is of course a very common bird that can still surprise by its beauty in its breeding plumage. Black-naped Orioles are breeding in Fengxian.
