You can post it on your local Internet bulletin board, and give it to the people who receive wildlife rescue calls but normally can’t help… your local town hall, police department, libraries, and hiking area staff.

Like most Kiwis I was shocked by the pair of earthquakes that laid Christchurch low in 2010 and 2011. Thanks to it’s marine canyon it’s the place to see Sperm Whales, swim with Dusky Dolphins and New Zealand Fur-seals, and watch albatrosses, shearwaters and petrels. Cape Petrels aren’t rare, but are fun.

The roost used to be in front of the “Stadtwerke” (the high chimney with breeding Peregrine Falcons) along Kurfürstenanlage a few hundred metres to the east, but the birds switched to the train station in January 2011. The zoo has a small colony of genuinely wild Grey Herons (watch them compete with the seals for the fish!),

Or, Pygmy leaf-folding frogs, Afrixalus brachycnemis, from Tanzania, tiny climbing frogs who lay their eggs in leaves and then fold the leaves over them for protection, sealing the nest with secretions. 5 Responses to “Tsunami Pics from Midway Atoll&# Duncan Mar 14th, 2011 at 10:05 pm I’m trying to find out what has happened on the other Hawaiian Islands. The Islands hold important populations of Monk Seals as well as all the world’s Laysan Ducks and Laysan Finches. I see Kure was also badly hit.
