My eBird 10th Anniversary

10,000 Birds

When Feeding Birds Runs Amuck

10,000 Birds

Last week the media was eating up a story about a poor, little 80 year old woman who violated a 2009 No Trespass Order that prohibited her from visiting local parks in Massachusetts. The Eagle Lady has also died and now the town bans the feeding of eagles and other birds.

10,000 Birds

That Cattle Egret I found in Somerset County, August 2009? My personal favorites are three photos of the 2009 Cape May Ivory Gull. Development, conservation, and climate change have affected bird distribution in good ways (a record 282 Bald Eagles found on the January 2009 official count!)

On Jeff Corwin's 100 HEARTBEATS

Animal Person

When I was asked if I wanted to read Jeff Corwin's 100 HEARTBEATS (Rodale 2009) I was ambivalent. And managing means killing them, breeding them, and otherwise fiddling with their populations.

Suzie wrote about her experiences as a bird rehabber in Flyaway: How A Wild Bird Rehabber Sought Adventure and Found Her Wings (2009) and used those experiences as the source for her fictional children’s book, Hawk Hill (1996).
