New Zealand had a widespread dabbling duck, the Grey Duck ( Pacific Black Duck if you’re an Aussie) but these were declining a in number because of changes to their habitat. Some wild Grey Ducks from the Northern Territory ( GDW45 Creative Commons ). I mentioned 2008 as the year I became aware of the issue.

The adult Pied Oystercatchers were still at their non-breeding site at Gantheaume Point and will no doubt lay their first eggs for 2015 in the first week of July. The Poo Ponds are where you will add a good variety of ducks including Pink-eared Ducks, Pacific Black Ducks, Plumed-whistling Ducks, Grey Teal and Hardhead.

Fox does an excellent job balancing these three elements, keeping the emphasis on the birds. Fox relates her voyages according to the seasons, starting with her first survey in the spring.
