What I am getting at here is that I have seen lots and lots of Ruddy Ducks at Jamaica Bay but never one that looked like this particular individual. She was essentially cream-colored, much lighter than the typical female Ruddy Duck. Anyway, enjoy the images and keep an eye out for odd ducks! Get yours today!

Reading Deb's post about the goslings at Poplar and getting Jenny 's request to sign a petition to save the Canada geese of Ballwin, Missouri from mass extermination reminded me how much I miss the wildlife at the neighborhood we lived in from 2002-early 2005. And a dead end. There's never a shortage of creatures who need our help.

Hurricane Sandy offered up some unusual seabirds and some unusual flying humans During and after these storms are generally the best times to scour the horizon for seabirds. But one thing is REALLY good for both and there is no shortage of them during the fall in Florida. The bird was too tired to move and allowed a really close approach.

From 2002-2005 I was heavily ensconced in a bird and waterfowl phase with sometimes daily drama of the life-and-death variety that led to my unintentional education about all things duck (Muscovies, in particular). No one paid a moment of attention to the tray but I couldn't keep my eyes off of it.
