All these people were legends – I barely scraped past 2000 in half a century. Having learned from my Namibian experience I walked away briskly. In my family, we have a tradition (in place since 1347 when we survived the Black Death) of “ wait over the weekend and see what happens ”. It’s just the warm-up.

When Reed Parrotbill s go on family outings, they usually just climb up reeds. This is what they do most days anyway, so many parrotbills now feel that these family outings are basically very pointless. Some ornithological research is surprisingly simple. This individual first did not fully comply.

Illustrations were created using diverse visual and physical source materials–skin collections from Australian museums and a database of over 300,000 photographs (plus, of course, the artists’ years of field experience). Each family group begins with a small box summarizing the characteristics of the family in Australia.

People ascribe near mythic status to the members of the family Delphinidae (and other related families). I had my first swim with Inshore Bottlenose Dolphins in Northland’s Bay of Islands back in 2000, and it was a tripy experience. Which has always mystified me slightly. South Banks Peninsula.
