Piney Z Lake is separated by Lake Lafayette by another raised berm – this time with no openings for paddlers. We could have continued along the paddle trail, but I’m still building my kayaking muscles and didn’t want to overdo it right out of the gate. Only one kayak and one canoe passed us as we explored.

Basically, hornbills get paid by evolution to eat fruit, digest the fleshy parts, and regurgitate or defecate the rest – a means of seed transportation that is apparently quite attractive to many plants despite the yuck factor involved. For example , fallen figs do not seem to mind catching a ride with Oriental Pied Hornbills.

hours on I-95 (we here in South Florida are known for our very limited public transportation options--boy do I miss NYC). While spending hours in the car I've been thinking about various issues related to sentient nonhumans, animal rights and veganism. It's comical. It's absurd.
