White-faced Ibis at Colusa National Wildlife Refuge

I didn’t really have time to stop, but as I was passing by, I saw hundreds of American White Pelicans fly up and thought I’d better take a drive through and see what else was there. I spotted a Eurasian Wigeon amongst the American Wigeon right out of the gate, but that wasn’t the best sighting of the day.

Bird Banding the Dry Tortugas

As we looked closer, we saw the Sooty Terns nesting right on the ground itself, calling back and forth to each other as they sat on their speckled eggs.

An Australian White Ibis ( Threskiornis molucca ) that is part of a study of urban birds (tags have been reported!). Rounding off the waterbirds were Australian Pelicans, Eurasian Coots , the iconic Black Swans and feral geese. A Hardhead or White-eyed Duck ( Aythya australis ), and a Eurasian Coot ( Fulica atra ) in the Duck Pond.
