Falcons split from hawks to join parrots and songbirds Unanimously, the committee voted to remove falcons (Falconiformes) and parrots (Psittaciformes) from their current positions in the list and place them before the songbirds (Passeriformes), more closely to reflect the relationships between these three great orders.

What seeds does a Baird’s Sparrow eat? But many people who live closely with animals, whether as some of the more open-minded researchers or your average pet owners, have always been well aware that this simply isn’t true. I look forward to more research being done in this field.

It is amazing how parrots and parakeets can totally blend into their surroundings. My goal was Lucifer Hummingbird , but I didn’t do enough research to know that the best time to see the hummingbird is in the early evening. I had two days in the Ramsey Canyon area, and I focused on life birds. I was the only birder there!

The two-page spread on Parts of a Bird provides diagrams for the topographical terms used in the Species Accounts, including hummingbird, shorebird, gull, passerine, and every feather on the upper wing of an adult Lark Sparrow. There are page references to and from the Species Accounts maps, which makes research transparently easy.

Now this, might not sound like anything of particular ground-breaking significance, but in the context of animal personality research, it is a fairly big thing. While studying, he also worked on various conservation/research projects (parrots, wagtails, vultures, and anything else that flew) and ringed thousands of birds.
