Portuguese City Tries to End Killing of Strays

From the Portugal News Online. Under Portuguese legislation, stray and unwanted animals that are kept in municipal kennels, even healthy ones, can be put down after eight days if unclaimed. The majority of these animals are unwanted dogs, removed from the streets by municipal services or dropped off by members of the public.

In Sweden, the way they deal with rabbit problems is to shoot them and burn them for fuel. Many of them are domestic pets released by uncaring owners which then go on to breed.
