While snakes protect their eggs, and may protect their young for a short period of time after they hatch, baby snakes are very soon on their own. Raptors feed their young meat. Although it might look like they could have a pair or two lurking beneath all those chest feathers, they actually don’t. Care does not include milk.

One of my most vivid memories of watching The Sopranos – still the best TV series ever, in my opinion – is Tony outside barbecuing, occasionally turning the different pieces of meat. On a side note, the bird is also kind of ugly, so maybe the chicks never seeing their father has a certain protective function.

Many of us have difficulty with the idea of keeping “pets.” When it comes to pets, the only reasons he considers for keeping pets have to do with the enrichment of the lives of people. The campaign to moralize meat has largely been a failure. But I’m merely making his point.

Many people support this, particularly affluent types, who have become dog and cat people and now own them as "pets." Yes, it is hypocritical (speciesism), but who said that we either protect humans or animals? But my initial reaction is that this is like Americans giving up "red meat." Where do people get that idea?

Another paper reviews information on Oriental Pied Hornbills raiding the nests of various bird species in Singapore and even pet bird cages. The Rhinoceros Hornbill is the state bird of the Malaysian state of Sarawak ( source ), which unfortunately does not prevent hunting of the bird, not only for meat but also for the feathers.
