FWC officers arrived at a reptile facility and forcefully killed 29 reticulated pythons, 5 Burmese pythons, and 1 pregnant Boa constrictor. He had a legal permit to own them (Conditional Species Permit), and had legally microchipped them according to FWC guidelines. The FWC then proceeded to kill the total 34 pythons using a bolt gun.

In addition to killing birds of prey, brodifacoum has also killed coyotes, grey foxes, red foxes, kit foxes, mountain lions, bobcats, black bears, Pacific fishers, and other animals, including domestic dogs and cats. Syngenta warns that “Talon” is “hazardous to dogs, cats, pigs, poultry and other wildlife.”

Not bad given that the 5 families in the inner circle of the laughingthrush family have a combined number of about 68 species. The Hainan version is sometimes considered a separate species, in which case it is classified as Near Threatened. 36, if my counting is right and there has been no very recent split or lump.

They are a commensal species, meaning that they are a wild animal that lives in close association with humans, not as a pet or as a farm animal but more like a parasite, to the extent that it is hard to find them in truely wild settings, and it is hard to find human settlements without them. because of collisions with vehicles.

I once knew a guy who kept and raised cats. This is approximated by the size of the animal, but really, this has to be adjusted for depending on modality of killing. Also, feral Cats on islands seem to be a serious problem, causing the extirpation of some indigenous species. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.4–3.7

In total, there are eight species of hornbills in Borneo – the best place to see them seems to be the Kinabatagan River area (also known as Sukau). Another paper reviews information on Oriental Pied Hornbills raiding the nests of various bird species in Singapore and even pet bird cages.

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. The African Spoonbill is one of the six global spoonbill species, and the main African one (there are also some Eurasian Spoonbills in Africa).
