This research suggests that the boom isn’t due to an influx of newcomers, but rather because more local birds are flourishing and successfully rearing families. Specifically, researchers found that in EAB-infested areas, the birds preferred ash trees to other trees, and seemed to favor the ashes with the most severe damage.

Birding Zamorano University in Honduras

Had we visited during winter, the rainforest portion would almost certainly have yielded tons of warblers; winter residents include Kentucky , Blue-winged , and Golden-winged Warblers along with both waterthrushes. One of the many research stations owned by Zamorano lies high in the mountains on the way to Tegucigalpa.
