We recently posted about the University of Kansas which, in response to USDA-cited lab violations, is spending about $1 million on lab renovations (although now I'm hearing it's more like $700,000.) Still, the tip was all I needed to jump online and do some quick research (and all praises to the internet for making such things possible!) First, we were on a schedule that, while not tight, did involve being in Kansas City before nightfall. A helpful site gave me not only the block, but the very backyard to check!

This turned out to be nice for one researcher who thus could do the research for her Ph.D. Interestingly, in her work, the researcher found that the birds live in small groups dominated by a single male. A bit surprisingly (at least to me), the Kalij Pheasant has been introduced and established as a gamebird in Hawaii.
