Efforts have been made to return Mission Bay to its wildlife roots which can be witnessed from the Kendall-Frost Marsh Preserve on the northwest corner with several agencies working to replant and manage for wildlife, including the Ridgway’s Rail. We regularly find Snowy Egrets , scope out Brant , and shorebirds.

Laysan albatrosses are ocean-dwelling seabirds who have 6-foot wingspans, weigh 7-8 pounds, occasionally sleep while flying, and rarely land except to raise their chicks. The oldest Laysan albatross was last seen raising a chick on Midway Atoll in 2016, at age 66. People who work with wildlife understand that death is a part of life.

You rush over to investigate, and there are birds in your fireplace. Chimney Swifts are remarkable birds who are having a harder and harder time finding brick chimneys in which to nest and raise their families. They’re Chimney Swifts. Their nests are made of tiny twigs and stuck to the side of chimneys with their sticky saliva.
