I see people taming minks and using them as work animals for hunting rats and mice. My neighbours empty shed was taken over my a pine marten. It'll be having babies soon. Can I keep one and domesticate or tame it enough to be a good pet? Can I do this with a pine marten? Why or why not?

New Zealand has been the recipient of a higher than average number of introduced species, in particular a range of mammals from elk to mice. Take a project to remove rats from the Californian island of Anacapa (in the Channel Islands). This is quite a big deal for an island group that had no mammals save bats for millions of years.

Unfortunately, Hen Harriers die disproportionally near British Grouse moors – most likely killed illegally by people hunting grouse for sports ( source ). On the other hand, in the West, mice, and rats are also kept as pets, maybe with the same logic.
