I'm not sure why he thinks we "appear" to be effective, as I can't think of one campaign that I've supported, other than the banning of greyhound racing in individual states, that has actually succeeded. Frankly, we don't know whether or not welfare reform will lead to the abolition of the use of sentient nonhumans.

In terms of language, people who eat dead bodies can be called "corpse munchers." I'm not saying there's anything incorrect about the verbiage. they already agree with you.

I do think that in my lifetime greyhound racing will end, circuses will be animal-free, elephants and marine mammals won't be in zoos, and fur might even be banned. I'm not saying welfare reform is the answer, but that ceasing the use of an animal is the only action that will completely alleviate suffering.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW; www.ifaw.org ) has compiled some tips on how to keep pets happy and healthy in the cold months ahead. Breeds with very short fur like Chihuahuas, boxers and greyhounds may have a hard time keeping warm, making even brief walks uncomfortable.
