I'm not sure why he thinks we "appear" to be effective, as I can't think of one campaign that I've supported, other than the banning of greyhound racing in individual states, that has actually succeeded. Frankly, we don't know whether or not welfare reform will lead to the abolition of the use of sentient nonhumans.

I do think that in my lifetime greyhound racing will end, circuses will be animal-free, elephants and marine mammals won't be in zoos, and fur might even be banned. I'm not saying welfare reform is the answer, but that ceasing the use of an animal is the only action that will completely alleviate suffering.
