Currently, A Chance for Bliss sanctuary is home to 96 residents including 25 horses, 22 dogs, 8 goats, 7 pot belly pigs , 4 sheep, 2 steers, 5 ducks, 5 geese, 5 cockatiels, 4 rabbits, 3 chickens, 3 cats, 1 turkey, a one-winged pigeon, Hines, and a turtle, Bart. The oldest dog, Max, is 17, while the oldest horse, Prince is 36.

Feral Goats also arrived with the first European settlers and this species population fluctuates dramatically depending on climatic conditions. The First Fleet were also responsible for the arrival of pigs that have become feral and inhabit approximately 40% of Australia and cause competition for water and generally damage all pasture.

The same is true for cows, pigs, fishes, turkeys, chickens, buffaloes, sheeps, goats, and many other nonhuman animals whom we call "food." To kill Violet Rays so I may eat her (or for any other reason other than to relieve her suffering) would be a betrayal, not to mention unnecessary. This is indeed a matter of conscience.

Sure, we try not to introduce snakes, rats, cats, goats, pigs, and a host of other creatures to isolated islands. What right do we have to even exist when our very existence as humanity is what has caused a rate of extinction not seen except during cataclysmic events? And it is a rate of extinction that is speeding up!

Humans, and the rats, pigs, goats, dogs, cats, snakes, mosquitos and disease they bring with them have wiped out species after species on islands. Often without predators, or at least without land based mammalian predators. As such they are poorly equipped to handle the introduction of invasive species.
