On the one hand, they are very easy to see in Germany, swimming in public parks or teaching pensioners how to eat bread. To be honest, I never cared too much for swans. On the other hand, their white color and their considerable size made me see them as somewhat arrogant birds – the white Golf convertible of the bird world.

Prior to that trip to Kazakhstan the only other time I had seen Hooded Crows was in Germany in 2007, when my best looks at a Hooded Crow were along the shore of the Baltic Sea. Happily for me the traffic wasn’t heavy and I made it to Great Kills Park in almost no time.

We, the people of Germany, have had enough of this nonsense. May 2013 was the wettest May on record, like… ever, with extreme flood events that even killed people. Birds Germany magpies weather' No seriously. March 2013 was the coldest March in more than 100 years. April 2013 was extremely dry and also unusually cold.
