Third Place (The Student Award): Kyle Ramirez, a design student at The Art Institute of Dallas, for his “Cotton Candy Dress” that creates the illusion of something “soft and weightless like fur and cotton candy” but uses cascading ruffles, antiqued satin fabric, artificial flowers and beads, to achieve that illusion.

Big Year Birding Update

Mary Beth Stowe is hoping to tick 350 species along the lower Texas Coast this year and has netter 307 so far. A twelve-year-old birder, Skyler Bol , is shooting for 400 species for the year and he is easily going to make it, as he has already ticked 389!

Wrap-Up of 2012 Big Year Birding

Mary Beth Stowe hoped to tick 350 species along the lower Texas Coast this year and came up a bit short with 332. Blake and Holly Wright hoped to photograph 400 species in the lower 48 this year and easily made it, photographing 432! Not only that, but they raised money for the Houston Audubon Society and the Katy Prairie Conservancy.
