The highlight of the weekend was seeing a pair foraging on a beach, searching the sand and tide strands for various morsels like a turnstone, and approaching the dozing New Zealand Fur Seal without the slightest sign of fear. The centre has a daily feeding of wild Kaka , making it easy to see this large parrot. Abel Tasman is popular for its easy hiking trail along the coast and kayaking, keep an eye out for New Zealand Fur Seals and Spotted Shags. It is also possible to go for walks in the surrounding forests to see birds like Kokako and Riflemen.

Almost immediately I saw, very briefly, my only Double-eyed Fig-parrot of the trip, and heard a Leaden Flycatcher and some Blue-winged Kookaburras. The highlight of the night was a Striped Possum, a large squirrel sized possum with black and white striped fur. Amazingly, the day wasn’t even over at this point.As
