These experiences were the highlight of my trip to Ethiopia and one of the most fascinating and enjoyable encounters I have ever had the privilege to experience in many years of wildlife watching. On the short list of wins for wildlife during the Bush II era, Short-tailed Albatross were officially listed as Endangered in 2000. Somebody won a Nobel Prize.

As we shot out into the ocean we received a lecture on the Kaikoura Canyon, its wildlife and the Sperm Whale from Hayley, a local girl who was our guide. Sperm Whales feed deep, diving to the bottom of the trench, hunting for a while, then rising again to catch a breath. I always seem to see Kaikoura at dawn.

I decided to go to KPBL after my first day in Cairns and use the place as my base with which to explore the Atherton Tableland, a high area to the west of Cairns famous for its wildlife. The highlight of the night was a Striped Possum, a large squirrel sized possum with black and white striped fur.

The definition of the word HUNT is “to chase or search for game or other wild animals for the purpose of catching or killing.” ” Obviously the dictionary does not equate hunting with conservation. If you have some insane idea that Hunting Is Conservation: I think we all remember the fate of the Passenger Pigeon ?
