Nice article about people who are committed to defending "lab rats" used for medical research. I've worked with rats and I find them charming and intelligent creatures. Tags: rats animal experimentation laboratories medical research. So I think it's sad to read this.

The ginuea pig cages are small with very little toys same with the rat cages. They also sometimes house rats and Guinea pigs alone wich will cause depression.

What’s even more frustrating is when animal rights people learn of plans to cull nonnative species. Navy wiped out every single rat on Midway Atoll, seabirds flourished afterwards. The number of bird lives saved as a result of the rat removal operation can easily be estimated to be into the millions by now.

Like Vick, most of us shamelessly abuse and kill animals. Homemakers employ deadly rat traps and poisons to rid their dwellings of vermin. Hunters shoot down animals in cold blood for mere sport. So why is one type of animal cruelty (dogfighting) more reprehensible than another (lobster-boiling)? It's true.

Engber mentions that in 1972, the USDA put into place "a special exemption for rats, mice, and birds, allowing scientists to treat them however they saw fit—in cages of any size, in experiments with any degree of pain and suffering. The fact that we care about--and fight for--animals based on how cute we have deemed them to be is disgraceful.

On the other hand, kids that don’t get the experience of having a pet early may become afraid of animals, especially if their parents don’t particularly care for animals. For these folks, I recommend a nontraditional pet like a rat or a guinea pig. Today I own 40 outdoor dogs and two more who live indoors!

I want to talk about why we shouldn't be using animals and that it's infinitely easier to be a vegan than it was 20 years ago. If you believe your dog has a right to a life free of torture and slaughter for no reason, then you really ought to think about extending that right to mice, rats, chickens and fish. daily, in the blogosphere.
