Pelican Release with International Bird Rescue

First, you get to tour one of their California centers , you get a special opportunity to see a Pelican getting its final medical exam and numbered leg band, plus you get the honor of releasing one, or in my case, two of their rehabilitated pelicans!

A Relaxing Big Day in Florida

Morning on Weeks Bay

The water popped with rising menhaden, and giant Brown Pelicans dove with watery crashes after them. I was touring the reserve for two days, and felt pumped to get out on the water.

Bird Banding the Dry Tortugas

Erika is a first year graduate student studying Ecosystem Science and Conservation at Duke. The island contains 80,000 breeding Sooty Terns, in addition to 4,500 breeding Brown Noddies and another 100 breeding pairs of the huge Magnificent Frigatebirds, not to mention pelicans, herons, Black Skimmers , other tern species, and so much more.
