None of the three voyagers made landfall due to poor weather and dangerous conditions.

Or, Pygmy leaf-folding frogs, Afrixalus brachycnemis, from Tanzania, tiny climbing frogs who lay their eggs in leaves and then fold the leaves over them for protection, sealing the nest with secretions. There is a large family of frogs, Bufonidae, that includes most of the warty, hoppy creatures we think of as toads.

Having flown to Washington State on a family vacation the first obstacle was easily out of the way, which you knew already if you ever read this blog. Bald Eagles competed with hauled out Harbor Seals for our attention and we were told that the concentration of eagles was due to the salmon not yet running in the rivers.

Large areas of the islands are taken over as the breeding grounds of the Western Gull , a large bird that is without question the most ornery member of the family I have ever encountered. And it isn’t just on the ground or an occasional accidental hazard. As well as gulls the islands home large colonies of Brandt’s Cormorants.
