There are over 5,000 species of frogs in existence (5,858 at the time the book was written, the exact number changes as research dictates re-arrangements of taxonomy and new species are discovered). There is a large family of frogs, Bufonidae, that includes most of the warty, hoppy creatures we think of as toads.

At least in the northeastern United States, their rate of so doing is high, according to research I summarized here. 2015 was challenging, at best, on a personal level but it was a fantastic year for birds in New York City. I love participating in citizen science! Sounds good to me! Hummingbirds are awesome!
