Life Birds at Point Reyes National Seashore

We were woefully under-prepared in terms of planning – which almost kept us from meeting our friends – but we were also surprised and thrilled to learn that not only were Gray Whales migrating past the lighthouse, but Elephant Seals were lounging on a nearby beach! Elephant Seals. White-crowned Sparrow. Think again!

Geikie Gorge

We then took the road to visit Geikie Gorge, which is a short drive from town and a sealed road. The road towards Geikie Gorge from Fitzroy Crossing is also worth taking slowly because there are some good species to be observed. There are several options when visiting the park on how you want to explore it. Great Bowerbird bower.

Doolena Gorge

Doolena Gorge is approximately 40 kilometres/ 25 miles from Marble Bar on the main sealed highway. Birds of prey included Nankeen Kestrel , Wedge-tailed Eagle , Collared Sparrowhawk and Black Falcon. Just to the north of Marble Bar is a beautiful gorge on the Coongan River, which rarely flows. Bush Stone-curlews wailed in the night!
