Birding with the Pale Rider Close Behind

I am driving down the dirt track in the Carska Bara Ramsar site (Serbia) and a cloud of dust closely follows me, like a rider on a pale horse. The only falcon that has the manoeuverability to chase and catch swallows in flight… a few pirouettes later, he leaves with empty talons. Just for fun, it seems – joie de vivre?

Fair parts of the property were used to cultivate different crops, some areas were pasture for cows and horses, and other areas were covered in forest that was meant to be logged, selectively or otherwise. We passed through a town called Paradise, Montana, where a woman was leading a horse across the lawn of the post office. We saw not an owl either.
