In September, I had the fantastic opportunity to travel to an increasingly popular destination for birding: Honduras. As one who is perennially interested in biogeography, the birds found in the upper elevations of Honduras were of particular interest to me. In short, the mountain birding in Honduras promised a slew of cool new birds.

Many Red-eyed Vireos have seen Harpy Eagles , have kept still upon hearing the haunting calls of forest-falcons. The same goes for Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, and other places along their migration routes. The truth is, many of those familiar birds have traveled much further than us. For birds, there are no borders.

Serendipity Plus Avocado = Yellow-billed Cuckoo

Did it stop off in Mexico, Honduras, or Florida? I wish it well, I hope it avoids the coils of snakes and talons of forest-falcons in the Amazon. I wish I could ask it where it came from. Did it nest in some remnant riparian zone in the west or did it swoop between forest patches in southern Illinois? I hope to see it again.
