It was an exciting experience, though a remarkably chilly one, as winters in Castile and León can be very cold. At the time we were looking, without success, for White-backed Woodpeckers. Keeping fox numbers down certainly benefits our local ground-nesting birds, especially Stone Curlews and Grey Partridges.)
