I am puzzled as to why Gulls and Terns are almost passed over, with less than two pages of text devoted to a family description and only six species accounts (four gulls, two terns). Family follows family with no page break, making this section a little dense. Woodpeckers are a family of focus for Tuttle-Adams.

National Audubon Society Birds of North America: A Guide Review

Using the icons to locate specific bird families takes a little getting used to, but if you do it often it works well as a finding tool. I do wish that the ethics section included guidance on the use of playback and that all the sections included titles or websites for further reading. These are all informative and current.
