SWAT teams would have to be organized privately, town by town, county by county. There would then be three options: 1) re-home them to people who will keep them inside; 2) drop them off at an animal shelter as far away as possible; or 3) humanely euthanize them. What can she do? She could call the SWAT team. It’s time for this to end.

But I would never have imagined how important it would be to my emotional well-being to have a bird-friendly garden during lockdown. It doesn’t seem to offer food or shelter for birds; but, being the tallest tree on the block, is an important stopover for lots of species. Mostly, we don’t let them.

Red Star, which has a nearly century-long legacy of animal relief, is reaching out with critical help and on-the-ground sheltering and support services to assist with emergency operations and provide much-needed care for innocent animal victims. The Red Star team will also be assisting at the Emergency Animal Shelter.

Burnout, Compassion Fatigue, Emotional Exhaustion these are all familiar topics to those of us who spend our time helping animals. One day about 10 years ago, I was in the process of transporting quite a few dogs to a rescue from a high kill shelter. They shared with me that they have the ability to sense our emotions and feelings.

Every day myself and other 'friends' went out of our way to terrify the poor helpless dog that used to live in this filthy run down shed for shelter. Dear ARAN Members, I remember as a young child throwing stones and sticks at a terrified greyhound that slept in a back shed a few blocks from where I live. He would not return for many hours.

Case in point: some of my family members have become active with feral cat colony organizations. It started with donation requests for spay and neutering cats but then quickly transferred to a trap, neuter and release organization. But I’ve learned we love animals in very different ways. I have mixed feelings about TNR.
