Apparently, Longcanggou is a great place to see a variety of parrotbill species. I can only partly confirm this, with my sightings restricted to two species. Like many of the largest species within bird families, the Great Parrotbill looks somewhat plain, at least in the weather I encountered it.

Many animals also display wide-ranging emotions, including joy, happiness, empathy, compassion, grief, and even resentment and embarrassment. He had a legal permit to own them (Conditional Species Permit), and had legally microchipped them according to FWC guidelines. This is also present in birds & mammals, however it is not fully present in fish & amphibians. But the structure of reptile brains shows that they are more akin to mammals & birds.

Just to be clear, this book deals with the nonhuman animals who are most like us: social vertebrates, and specifically social mammals (and there are a handful of references to cetaceans who behave similarly). Bekoff and Pierce "advocate a species-relative view of morality.

She doesn’t know the species till it emerges, almost dreamlike, from the heavy glare of the sun. The Achiever’s survey voyages took place from 2005 to 2008; the goal was to collect baseline data on sea mammals and marine birds. Fox encounters 69 species, some singly, some in huge feeding or migrating flocks.

Nineteen days later we had racked up an amazing list of 436 species, including some of Africa’s least known birds such as Congo Serpent Eagle , Yellow-footed Honeyguide , Tessmann’s Flycatcher , Yellow-bearded Greenbul , Black-collared Lovebird and much besides. We also knew we had discovered Africa’s next hot birding destination.
