Somehow, Steller’s Sea Eagle manages to look both fierce and slightly cartoonish. Georg Wilhelm Steller (1709 – 1746) was a German-born naturalist, though it seems he spent most of his (shortish) adult life in Russia, participating in the exploration of the North Pacific region. Back to the eagle.

Ending 2021 with the Steller’s Sea Eagle

Clicking on the blue url, I gasped, my eyes widened, the hair on the back of my neck stood up: the Steller’s Sea Eagle had been spotted in Maine, just over an hour from where I stood at that moment.
