Birding the Drakensberg, South Africa

10,000 Birds

One in November 2018 included a one-day birding trip in the Drakensberg area, a mountain range in the border area between South Africa and Lesotho. Birding the Kruger Park (2): Bateleur area

10,000 Birds

The one bird I did not see here, however, was the Bateleur Eagle … One highlight in the area is the Saddle-billed Stork , likely to be the tallest species in the stork family. While the species is listed as Least Concern, there are some papers suggesting it may not be as common as assumed, at least in South Africa.

Birding the Kruger Park (3): Malelane area

10,000 Birds

The Lilac-breasted Roller is the national bird of Kenya, but of course, this does not help it pay its bills in South Africa. Due to some misallocation of bird species, I saw the Bateleur Eagle near Malelane, not near Bateleur Camp, where a more professional marketing team would have located the bird.
