We have had a pair move due to human traffic increasing through the dune system and others have had to adapt to the changing landscape. They will chase Black Kites , but will fly away from the nest if a White-bellied Sea Eagle approaches as if there is no reason to be there.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve: the Tiger Afternoon

As our Gypsy comes to a halt, one Oriental Honey Buzzard is investigating the new arrivals. At the far end of the lake stands a tall, dry tree with an eagle that we are struggling to determine and it remains a dark silhouette far too far. It is a success, despite the heavy burden of poaching and a human-tiger conflict.

A stop at Hidden Valley netted us several species, including our only Scarlet Tanager of the day as well as a surprise fly-by adult Bald Eagle. Next we stopped by The Beanery where an extremely distant singing Veery at the limits of the human ear was the only new bird to grace our list.

Spotlight: Lisa Beth Acton, Raising Ravens

She has a captive-bred education bird named Xena, a Eurasian Eagle Owl. They immediately went to investigate it, and quickly learned to move when cars were coming. For a while I was afraid they were too friendly and might turn to humans if they needed food, but I’ve seen no sign of that.
