Andalucia’s City-Slicker Falcons

The kestrel colony is valued by the city of Seville: in recent years renovation work on the roof of the cathedral was suspended during the falcons’ breeding season. However, the appearance of a Peregrine or Booted Eagle “causes widespread panic at the colony, birds circling up high into the sky to avoid them”.

Birding Lake Kerkini, Greece: Three Lazy Days

Booted Eagle by Kostas Papadopoulos The next morning was a lazy one, a late breakfast and even later excursion. Later in the day, roadside birds included a Booted Eagle and a Levant Sparrowhawk. What amazed me is that, instead of the usual 6 or 8 slices, this pizza was cut into tiny, bite-size slices!

Welcome Back Waterfowl at Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge

Many more of the same waterfowl we’d already seen turned up on additional ponds, but we also spotted nesting Bald Eagles and Great Blue Herons , and a small flock of Snow Geese. The day was heating up literally as well as figuratively, and we struck out along one of the hiking paths.
